Prepare for fitting day

Fitting-day checklist

What to sort before Dan arrives, and what he checks on site. Tick items off as you go.

General guidance only. Your quote and product instructions take priority.

Your preparation

Agree before the date

These are not automatically included. Confirm them in the agreed scope and price.

  • Uplift and disposal of existing flooring is agreed in the scope and price
  • Any furniture assistance, and whether rooms can be completed in stages, is agreed
  • Beds, wardrobes, appliances or heavy items that cannot be moved have been explained to Dan

Confirm the details

Send exact details rather than descriptions.

  • Exact flooring product name, range and any labels have been shared
  • Any product-specific conditioning or acclimatisation arrangements agreed with Dan
  • Underfloor heating type and the heating supplier’s instructions have been shared, if fitted
  • Access, parking, stairs and your available dates have been confirmed
  • Move-in, tenancy or holiday-let deadlines have been mentioned

Prepare the rooms

Where practical, before Dan arrives.

  • Breakables and fragile items cleared from the rooms
  • Personal belongings removed
  • Smaller furniture moved out where practical

Coordinate other trades

Agree the sequence before the fitting date is set.

  • Wet building work, leaks and repairs resolved
  • Major decorating planned for before the finished floor, with touch-ups after
  • Plans for kitchen units, skirtings and fixed furniture discussed

After fitting

Follow the instructions for your actual product and preparation system. There is no fixed drying time; walkable does not mean ready for flooring or heavy use.

  • Product-specific drying and curing instructions noted
  • Agreed when walking, furniture, heavy items and washing can resume
  • Care instructions and product labels kept, with any spare pieces

Dan assesses

Leave technical preparation to Dan. Suitability and work stages need assessment before fitting.

  • Subfloor condition, stability and flatness
  • Moisture testing using a method suited to the chosen floor
  • Whether existing tiles, boards or layers can stay
  • Product and heating compatibility
  • Preparation required, drying stages and return-to-use timing
  • Any extra preparation once concealed layers are safely exposed

Leave old flooring alone. Do not scrape, sand or lift unidentified old tiles or black adhesive. Mention them and Dan will advise.
